THE list of applicants for the PBA’s Season 46 Draft should not only determine who would make up the league’s newest crop of players but also help decide the Gilas Pilipinas pool.
Commissioner Willie Marcial yesterday said that is precisely the reason why a board meeting initially set this week has been deferred until after the final list of draft applicants is known.
“Kailangan malaman ng SBP kung sino-sino mag-papa-draft para makapag-desisyon sila kung may special draft,” Marcial said yesterday.
“Madedesisyonan iyon after all applications, pumasok na,” added Marcial, referring to the deadline for the submission of draft applications on Jan. 27.
“After 27, Board meeting. Madaming pag-uusapan doon,” he said. “Kesa this week, ‘sabi ko, ‘Teka muna, di natin masasama SBP kasi di pa natin malalaman kung sino papasok.
“Pag kumpleto na, tatanungin namin sila (SBP). May kailangan ba kayo (na players)? Wala ba kayong kailangan? So wala ng special draft.’ Iyon mga pag-uusapan, kung paano na.”
The fate of Isaac Go, Rey Suerte, Mike and Mark Nieto and Allyn Bulanadi, who were picked in a special round for Gilas players in the last PBA draft in 2019, would also be decided on, according to Marcial.
