PHILIPPINE Coast Guard personnel rescued 63 passengers and crew of a passenger boat that capsized off Cebu after encountering big waves yesterday morning.
“All are okay, no one (was hospitalized),” PCG spokesman Capt. Armand Balilo said of the 53 passengers and 10 crewmen of MV Siargao Princess.
Citing reports from PCG Central Visayas, Balilo said the MV Siargao Princess left Loon town in Bohol around 9:30 a.m. en route to Sibonga town, Cebu.
At around 11:30 a.m., the boat sent a distress alert to the PCG while it was about three to five miles off Sibonga town, prompting the PCG to deploy assets for rescue operations.
Balilo said the military’s central command also dispatched helicopters to assist in the rescue operations.
“There are 63 survivors, out of the 53 passengers and 10 crew onboard. No deaths, no missing,” Balilo said, quoting information from Coast Guard Central Visayas chief Commodore Ronnie Gavan.
