THE Diocese of Pasig now has its first minor basilica in the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne located in Taguig City.
Speaking during the Holy Mass for the Feast of Saints Anne and Joachim on Tuesday, Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara announced that the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments have approved the petition sent by the parish last year.
“I wish to announce this great news that the Holy See approved our request of a decree granting the title of Minor Basilica to the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Anne,” said Vergara, who is also the concurrent vice president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
“This is a great blessing to us. This is the first basilica of the Diocese of Pasig,” he added.
Last year, the centuries-old parish petitioned the Vatican to grant the church with the title and dignity of a “minor basilica.”
The petition contained a 180-page document about the parish’s history, liturgical services, social services, culture, and devotion.
