APOSTOLIC Nuncio to the Philippines, Reverend Charles John Brown, yesterday called for everyone’s support to the upcoming elections at the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and to help ensure that the will of the Bangsamoro people will be upheld.

The Papal Nuncio, in the toast he offered during the traditional Independence Day vin d’honneur reception in Malacañang, expressed the support of the diplomatic corps for the upcoming polls in the BARMM as he recognized the progress that had been made in the region over the years.

Brown said it had been 10 years since the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) was signed between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) that paved the way for the establishment of the BARMM.

“With the date of the first BARMM parliamentary elections less than one year away, let me reiterate the support of the diplomatic corps for this process. Let us all do everything we possibly can to ensure that the hopes of the people of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and Muslim Mindanao will not be disappointed,” he said.

Brown recalled that during his visit to Jolo in February, he saw the changes and progress that have started to happen in the once conflict-stricken area.

He said the province had “suffered grievously during the long years of armed conflict” but added that there is a “sense of hope that is present now in the hearts of the people in Jolo.”

Brown urged everyone to help keep the sense of hope among the Bangsamoro people alive and to continue supporting the region’s progress.

The 2025 Bangsamoro Parliament election is set on May 12, 2025 in compliance with the Bangsamoro Organic Law.

Elected officials who would succeed the interim Bangsamoro Transition Authority Parliament would assume office on June 30, 2025.
