MALACAÑANG yesterday urged registered voters to exercise their right to vote today, Monday, and told them to choose leaders who really have the interest of the nation and the welfare of the citizens in their minds.

Communications Secretary and acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar also urged the public to continue observing health protocols when they go to the precincts.

“(On) May 9, 2022, the Filipino people will exercise their right to vote… Isa na naman itong patunay ng lakas ng ating demokrasya at katatagan ng ating Republika. Maaga po tayong pumunta sa mga presinto at bumoto ng mga kandidatong ating napupusuan (On May 9, 2022, the Filipino people will exercise their right to vote…This is proof of the strong democracy and the stability of the Republic),” he said.

President Duterte, whose term ends on June 30, will cast his vote at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School in Davao City.

The President, who flew to Davao City late last week, urged voters to just “do what is right” during the miting de avance of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago-Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod last Friday.

Duterte, who reiterated that political dynasty was never his intention, endorsed the candidacies of his children, Sara Duterte-Carpio, who is running for vice president; Paolo Duterte, who is running for Davao representative; and Sebastian Duterte, who is running for mayor of Davao City.

He also reiterated that he is not supporting any presidential candidate, preferring to remain neutral. He, however, said he is supporting several senatorial candidates.

“I’m not supporting any presidential candidate. It is up to you who you want to vote for. I won’t dictate who you’ll vote for. None, I am neutral,” he said in Visayan.

The President also thanked the people of Davao who supported him from being the city mayor and vice mayor and later as congressman and president.
