PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. has not shown any symptom of COVID-19 in the past two days but must complete the seven-day isolation requirement before he could physically return to his office, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said yesterday.

Angeles said the President’s lead physician, Samuel Zacate, gave Marcos a thorough examination before declaring “the President is now free from all symptoms of COVID-19” and will be ready to return to face-to-face engagements” after completing his isolation.

Marcos went on isolation on Friday last week after testing positive for COVID-19.

Angeles said Zacate also said that “if there is no reappearance of any sign and symptoms related to COVID-19, and provided further that he has no fever” for the next 24 hours, the President can be released from isolation on Friday.

Further quoting Zacate, Angeles said Marcos has also finished all his medications and all his vital signs are “within normal limit.”

He has no sign of respiratory distress and is very comfortable. He also said that Marcos also has no cough, no fever, no nasal stuffiness, no nasal itchiness, “and basically asymptomatic as of this time being.”

Angeles said the doctor will continue to closely monitor the President until he completes his isolation.

Angeles also said while under isolation, Marcos continued with his engagements, holding virtual meetings including presiding over the second Cabinet meeting and a meeting with Department of Agriculture officials on Tuesday via teleconferencing.

The President on July 8 experienced mild fever, nasal stuffiness, nasal itchiness and mild occasional non-productive cough. An RT-PCR test later confirmed he was positive for COVID-19.

This is the second time Marcos was infected with COVID, the first one at the height of the pandemic in 2020.
