A PAKISTANI was arrested by the police for possession of an improvised bomb during a raid in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan on Thursday.
The suspect was identified Haroon Bashir, alias Alex, 29, a resident of Barangay San Jose in Puerto Princesa City.
MIMAROPA spokeswoman Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino said Bashir was arrested at his residence at around 1:40 p.m. by virtue of a warrant issued by Palawan Judge Angelo Arizala.
Tolentino said policemen recovered at Bashir’s residence an improvised explosive device.
“At that juncture, the subject person was arrested and informed of his rights,” said Tolentino.
Tolentino said the operation was witnessed by barangay officials and members of the local media.
Authorities could not immediately give a background of Bashir.
A number of foreign terrorists are believed to be operating in the country. Most of these foreign terrorist fighters are said to be in western and central Mindanao, embedded with local terrorist groups.
