THE Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) yesterday said it will temporarily stop accepting medical financial assistance applications starting today, pending results of investigations on a couple who attempted to defraud the agency by submitting bogus documents.
James Patrick Bondoc, Pagcor vice president for Corporate Social Responsibility Group, said the suspects were senior citizens who applied for medical assistance and have received about P10,000.
“They presented valid IDs, even valid senior citizen IDs. They also obtained medical certificates which they used consecutively,” he said.
The two were arrested Tuesday in an entrapment operation set up by the Manila Police District.
Bondoc said Pagcor and the police are determining if the two are part of a syndicate.
The two are facing charges for falsification of documents.
Pagcor said pending results of the investigation, “the state-run gaming firm freezes its accommodation of requests for medical aid.”
Pagcor warned those who plan to dupe the agency that it is employing meticulous measures to evaluate documents seeking financial assistance. — Cyra Corral
