P68M shabu seized in Parañaque; 3 suspects nabbed

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and police operatives have arrested three drug peddlers, including a Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officer, and seized 10 kilos of shabu worth P68 million in Parañaque City.

In a statement last Sunday night, PDEA spokesman Derrick Carreon named the suspects as BuCor Corrections Officer 1 Paul Patrick Toledo, 27; truck driver Romeo Guerrero and security guard Reynold Santiago.

They were arrested at around 6:20 p.m. last Friday in a buy-bust operation at Skate Park in Bulungan, Parañaque City.

The operation was conducted by joint personnel of the PDEA Special Enforcement Service, PDEA-National Capital Region, PNP Drug Enforcement Group and Parañaque City police station.

“Seized from them were 10 kilograms of shabu worth P68 million, two vehicles, a pistol loaded with live ammunition and mobile phones,” said Carreon.

Carreon said the suspects will be charged with violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

A week-long anti-crime operation by the Southern Police District netted 85 drug suspects and more than P3 million worth of illegal drugs.

SPD District Director Brig. General Leon Victor Rosete said the operations held from August 5 to 11 resulted in the seizure of 478.64 grams of alleged shabu, 12. 17 grams of marijuana and 76 tablets of Ecstasy worth P3, 385, 412.

“Our persistent efforts to tackle illegal drugs across Southern Metro Manila underscore our steadfast dedication to fostering a drug-free environment. We greatly value the support and partnership from our community, which is essential to our mission,” Rosete said, adding that a total of 62 operations targeting drug suspects were conducted during the period. — With Ashzel Hachero and Christian Oineza
