AUTHORITIES yesterday seized a parcel containing 6.7 kilos of suspected shabu worth P45.9 million at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said the parcel was abandoned at PAIR-PAGS Center at the NAIA complex.
It was seized at around 11:30 a.m. by personnel of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, which is composed of several agencies, including the PDEA.
The parcel, concealed in foil packs, was declared as an “African Cultura,” according to PDEA spokesman Derrick Carreon.
The parcel contained six foil packs of shabu, assorted fabric placemats, pillow case, blankets, six plastic pouches of nuts, and three plastic pouches of pumpkin seeds.
Carreon said the parcel was shipped by Michael Mobida of 28 Krombek Street, Van Reibeeck BIR, Kempton Park, Johannesburg, South Africa and consigned to one Wilbert Dee of Manila.
PDEA operatives arrested a “high-value” target in the war against illegal drugs in Pandi, Bulacan last Tuesday.
Carreon named the suspect as Rodel Dumbi, 35, who he said is “tagged as a high-value drug personality” in the campaign against illegal drugs.
Dumbi was arrested by PDEA personnel, in collaboration with the local police, in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Poblacion, Pandi at around 10 a.m.
Seized from Dumbi’s possession was 500 grams of shabu worth P3.4 million and the buy-bust money.
Police seized P149,600 worth of suspected dangerous drugs and arrested two jobless persons in a buy-bust operation in Marikina City last Tuesday night.
Col. Earl Castillo, local police chief, identified the two as Jowel Arroyo, 35, of Barangay Parang Marikina City; and Marife Castillo, 34, of Baras, Rizal.
Seized from them were several sachets containing more or less 22 grams of suspected shabu. — With Christian Oineza
