MORE than P3 million worth of assistance had been distributed to close to 2,000 families affected by flashflood in the provinces of Cebu, Negros Oriental and Ifugao early this month, data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) showed.
Monitoring by the DSWD-Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) showed that as of July 16, more than P2.709 million worth of assistance has been given to 1,100 families or 4,605 persons affected by flash floods in Banaue, Ifugao last July 7.
Of those affected in Ifugao, 13 families sought temporary shelter at the Poblacion Multipurpose Building while three families stayed with their relatives or friends in Poblacion, Banaue following the flash floods and landslides brought about by monsoon rains.
In Central Visayas, P354,790 worth of aid were provided to 891 families or 4,185 persons that were affected by flashflood in Cebu and Negros Oriental last July 6. Of those affected, 293 families or 1,195 persons were in Cebu and while 598 families or 2,990 persons were in Negros Oriental.
DSWD-DROMIOC said a total of P638.079 million worth of standby funds (P339.035 million) and stockpiles of family food packs (P95.5 million) and non-food relief items (P203.5 million) are on standby and ready to be distributed in Central Visayas while 1.446 billion worth of standby funds (P404.8 million) and stockpiles of family food packs (P335.9 million) and non-food relief items (P705.6 million) are on standby and ready to be distributed in the Cordillera Administrative Region if needed.
The DSWD had started prepositioning food and other on-food relief items in different regions in anticipation of calamities and disasters, especially during the typhoon season.
The department has also been urging the public to participate in the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) this month to build resilient communities that can adapt and immediately recover from the socio-economic shocks brought by disasters and communities.
