P39.6M aid given to victims of Davao de Oro quake

THE government has distributed P39.63 million worth of family food packs (FFPs) and non-food relief items (NFRIs) to communities affected by the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked Davao de Oro early this month, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said yesterday.

The DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center said that as of yesterday, there were still 3,622 families or 16,063 persons staying in 12 evacuation centers located around the region while 1,635 families or 7,963 persons were staying with relatives or friends.

The March 6 quake, which had as its epicenter New Bataan in Davao de Oro, affected 22,553 families or 90,609 persons from 91 barangays.

It also damaged 4,324 houses sustained damages while 91 barangays were affected.

The DSWD had previously provided P2,000 financial assistance to 130 families who were severely affected by the quake while 40 patients, who were confined at the Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital due to the quake, had been provided P4,000 financial assistance under the department’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.
