THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released an additional P3.2 million worth of family food packs (FFPs) and other non-food relief items to families and individuals in Region XII (Soccsksargen) affected by heavy rains and flooding brought about by the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao since last week.
This is in addition to the 32,313 FFPs worth P22.1 million that have been prepositioned in the region that can be tapped and distributed to other affected areas.
The DSWD yesterday said a total of 19,124 families or 92,319 persons from Kabacan, Pikit, and Glan, all in Sarangani, have been affected by the rain and flooding, including 251 families or 612 persons currently staying in an evacuation center in Glan.
Social Welfare Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Romel Lopez said the department is continuously conducting actual validation and monitoring of affected families and profiling of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in evacuation centers as well as delivering relief items and other aid to address their needs.
“The DSWD will continue to coordinate with concerned LGUs to determine other services needed by their constituents to recover from the effects of the flooding,” the DSWD official said.
