ONLY P2.7 billion of the P4.85 billion allocated by the government has been distributed to victims of typhoon “Odette” that struck the country two months ago.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año reported the progress of the distribution of the assistance, from the Office of the President, during President Duterte’s Talk to the People on Monday night.
“As of now, we can see that six regions (affected by Odette) were already able to distribute P2.7 billion or 55.86 percent (of the allocated amount),” Año told the President.
Officials earlier said low-income individuals affected by Odette stands to receive assistance of P1,000 or a maximum of P5,000 per family.
A power point presentation by Año showed Western Visayas has received the highest amount of assistance so far with P830.36 million, followed by Caraga (P681.45 million), Eastern Visayas (P480.63 million), Central Visayas (P475.47 million), Mimaropa (P154.99 million), and Northern Mindanao (P88.69 million).
As of February 7, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the death toll from Odette stood at 405 people and 52 others still missing. It said Odette has affected 2.9 million families or 10.6 million individuals.
Odette also left P47.08 billion in damages to agriculture and infrastructure.
