OWWA offers calamity aid to OFW families hit by ‘Egay’

WITH the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) among the worst hit by super typhoon “Egay,” the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is now offering calamity assistance to affected families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

In a social media post, OWWA-CAR said OFWs and their families in calamity-hit areas may now avail of the calamity assistance program by applying online.

“OWWA-CAR is now accepting online applications for calamity assistance in the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Mt. Province, and the municipality of Tinoc in Ifugao, which have been declared under a state of calamity due to typhoon Egay,” said OWWA.

The calamity assistance is a program where OWWA members can get cash aid ranging from P1,000 or P3,000 in the event of a calamity, whether natural or man-made.

OWWA said eligible to apply are OFWs who are active OWWA members on or before the declaration of the state of calamity in their respective province or municipality, and their next of kin.

For OFWs applying, they are required to submit a copy of their passport (ID page with signature).

For the next of kin applicants, they need to submit the copy of the passport of the OFW (ID page with signature), valid ID of claimant, proof of relationship (birth certificate, if child; marriage contract, if spouse), and authorization letter of OFW with signature.

Applicants may file their application via https://calamity.owwa.gov.ph/.

“After successful application, kindly wait to be evaluated, you will receive a call/text for the pay-out details,” said OWWA.

According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), there were around 332,404 individuals or 96,101 families in the CAR affected by typhoon Egay.
