THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) yesterday assured assistance awaits household service worker (HSW) Myla Balbag as soon as she comes home from Kuwait.
Sen. Raffy Tulfo last Monday said Balbag, from Baggao, Cagayan, fell from a building while trying to escape her abusive employer last January 21, leaving her paralyzed.
In a radio interview, OWWA Administrator Arnel Ignacio said: “As soon as she comes home, we will provide her with financial assistance. We will also offer her livelihood assistance program by providing her with start-up funds amounting to P20,000. We will also offer scholarship benefits for her children, if she has any.
“For now, we have yet to provide any assistance. We will fix this as soon as she arrives,” he added.
Ignacio said they have deployed field personnel to provide assistance to Balbag while she is confined at the Al Jaber Hospital in Kuwait.
“She is already with OWWA officers so that she has companions who can regularly check her condition,” Ignacio said, adding Balbag will be repatriated as soon as she is discharged from the hospital.
