MORE than 64,000 jobs are set to be offered by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) when the Labor Day job fair returns two years after it was prohibited due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
In an online press briefing, DOLE spokesman Rolly Francia said 64,485 local and overseas job vacancies will await jobseekers come May 1. The number includes 52,237 local jobs and 12,248 overseas employment opportunities.
He said the jobs are set to be offered by 641 participating employers nationwide. Of the 641 firms, 588 are local employers and 53 are recruitment agencies and foreign employers.
Among local jobs, to be offered are production operator/machine operator, customer service representative, collection specialist, retail/sales agent/promodiser, and market research interviewer.
Most of them belong to the industries of manufacturing, business process outsourcing, and retail/sales.
Top overseas employment opportunities are for nurse/nurse aide, waiter/waitress/food server, household service worker, kitchen helper/assistant cook, and saleslady/salesperson.
Majority of the jobs abroad are in the Middle East (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait); followed by Europe (Germany, Poland, and UK); and Asia (Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore).
According to DOLE Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay, the May 1 job fairs will be hybrid, or done physical and virtually.
“There are areas that will still have online and, at the same time, physical activities. We will accommodate both,” said Tutay.
