WITH only two weeks left in the voter registration period for the May 2025 polls, just over 500,000 individuals have sought to have their voter registration records reactivated, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The poll body said 556,231 voters have applied for reactivation from February 12 to September 11.
Comelec data showed that 342,991 applicants have applied for reactivation only, while another 102,410 individuals applied for reactivation with correction of entries.
It also said that 81,649 others applied for transfer with reactivation, and 29,181 applied for transfer for reactivation with correction of entries.
The total number of reactivation applications is merely 10 percent of the number of deactivated voter registration records, which the poll body is at 5,376,630 voters.
A large majority of the deactivated voters, or 5,371,376, were due to their failure to vote in two successive preceding elections.
Another 4,212 were deactivated due to exclusion orders from courts, and 1,004 for failure to validate their records.
To note, the ongoing voter registration activities are open for registration, transfer, change/corrections of entries in the registration records, reactivation of registration records, inclusion of registration records and reinstatement of name in the list of voters, and transfer of registration records from foreign service post to local.
The voter registration period is set to end on September 30, 2024.
