THE Philippine Sports Commission apologized over the weekend to French Open juniors semifinalist Alex Eala and her parents, Michael and Rizza Maniego-Ayala, for mistakenly claiming the tennis prodigy was given P3 million financial aid by the PSC for her overseas training and international stints.
After Eala lost her semis match in the girl’s singles to France’s Elsa Jacquemot 3-6, 2-6 last Friday, the PSC, through its Facebook page, congratulated the teen tennis star for achieving the milestone.
“We are proud of what Alex has achieved in the French Open. This is another first for Philippine tennis and for Philippine sports. We are happy to be part of her journey,” PSC chairman Butch Ramirez was quoted as saying in the post.
The same post, which has been removed, claimed the PSC provided P3 million training for her overseas travels and two-month training in the US and Europe on top of another P1.5 million for six international competitions.
