THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) yesterday said local government units in the NCR Plus have already distributed P3.99 billion in financial assistance to 3.9 billion low-income individuals affected by the two-week enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) imposed from March 29 to April 11.

In an update, the DSWD said 3,999,239 persons have already received their “ayuda” as of April 14.

In Metro Manila, 2,944,201 individuals have received the P1,000 cash aid (P2.944 billion); 905,665 from the Calabarzon (P905.66 million); and 149,273 individuals from Bulacan (P149.27).

Department of Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Bernardo Florece said local government units in Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal and Laguna have formally asked for an extension to complete the distribution of the one-time cash aid for those who were affected by the ECQ.

President Duterte has allowed the grant of a P1,000 per person, or P4,000 per family, assistance to low-income families adversely affected by the stricter stay-home regulation in Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal.

Florece did not name any specific local government but said that some mentioned the ECQ and modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) and their current maintenance of only a skeletal force which limits their ability to fully serve their constituents and at the same time distribute the P1,000 cash.
