THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday said the Department of Public Works and Highways is set to do a “one-time, big-time” repair of dilapidated portions of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) from August 4 to 9.
MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes appealed to motorists and the public to bear with the expected traffic problem on Edsa during the repair work.
In a press briefing at the MMDA’s main office in Pasig City, Artes said certain portions of the 23.8-kilometer-long Edsa will be closed to traffic due to the repair work.
“It is due for repair already made worse by the heavy rains in the previous days which affected especially the asphalted portion that really needed to be patched up,” Artes said, adding this will ensure seamless and accident-free travel for motorists and the public.
He said MMDA monitoring showed that more than 426,000 vehicles are now plying EDSA on a daily basis, up from the pre-pandemic level of around 405,000.
The agency said “emergency asphalt overlay and re-blocking will be done at the stretch of Edsa Busway from Buendia to Munoz Market, both bound, starting from 10 p.m. of August 4 until 5 a.m. of August 9.
To be affected are roads fronting Hurom/Philam Homes, before Benitez St. after Trinoma, HQ BBBM near Octoboy, DDT Skytower Centris Station-Albano, before the Guadalupe Bridge, Rockwell Footbridge-Kalayaan, footbridge before Trinoma-front Landmark, Quezon City 2nd DEO Office-Centris;
Corinthians after Camp Aguinaldo, before MMDA (Sunshine Media Building), Guadalupe MRT-Guadalupe Bridge, footbridge at Trinoma-SM North, SM North and Nice Hotel-Munoz footbridge, Ricoa-Avida Towers, and before Floor Central and Wilcon.
Artes said motorists are advised to take alternate routes, including the Mabuhay Lanes, to avoid inconvenience while the repair works are ongoing.
