“The motive is personal grudge,” Sinas said but did not elaborate.

Sinas said Ducay was arrested by personnel of the Ilocos regional police office last December 9 by virtue of a search warrant for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He said witnesses identified Ducay as the gunman in the killing of Virgillo Maganes, a commentator of radio DWPR and a columnist of the weekly Northern Watch newspaper.
Maganes, 62, was shot dead by two suspects while entering the compound of his residence in Sitio Licsab, Barangay San Blas last November 10. He survived a similar attack in November 2016.

Sinas said a firearm recovered from Ducay, a cal. 357 revolver, will be subjected to a ballistic test to determine if this was the same gun used in the killing of Maganes.

“The testimony of two witnesses and CCTV (close circuit television) footage confirmed already the identity of the suspect (in Maganes killing),” Sinas said, referring to Ducay.
