The demand for household service workers (HSWs) in Oman is projected to increase in the coming months as the West Asian country pushes for the “Omanization” of its workforce, according to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Oman.

“The effect of Omanization is the increase in the demand for our HSWs. That is our projection. Almost all Omanis have been saying that they prefer Filipino HSWs,” said Labor Attaché to Muscat Gregorio Abalos in a virtual press briefing.

Abalos said that “Omanization will mean husbands and wives will both have jobs, they will work outside now. If they both have jobs, additional incomes, they will definitely get Filipino HSWs.”

However, the labor official admitted that the move will also lead to Filipino professionals losing their jobs.

“There are also many professionals here, like engineers, architects, teachers. But slowly, it has gone down from 30 to 40 percent,” he said.
