THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday warned prospective overseas Filipino workers against falling prey to unscrupulous individuals offering jobs abroad by using fake identities and documents.
In a public advisory, the DMW said aspiring OFWs should lookout for and avoid being party to the so-called Assumed Identity Scheme.
“Be careful against the modus of offering jobs abroad while using a different name and identity. This is called the Assumed Identity Scheme,” said the DMW.
“Avoiding this modus will prevent becoming victims of illegal recruitment, human trafficking, or cybercrimes,” it added.
The DMW said that under the scheme, perpetrators ask their victims to get a passport using a different identity and documents, such as birth certificate.
“This is illegal,” it stressed, and cited an example those who are recruited as domestic workers, which has a minimum age requirement of 24 years old, and are asked to use a different identity to meet the age requirement.
