Nueva Ecija police probe attack on school principal

THE Department of Education yesterday said it is working with law enforcement authorities to identify and arrest the suspects who attacked and wounded a school principal in Jaen, Nueva Ecija last Tuesday.

Reden Daquez, the principal of Sto. Tomas North Elementary School, was in his car Tuesday morning and was about to enter the school when two gunmen aboard a motorcycle fired at him.

Daquez sustained multiple gunshot wounds but survived the attack. He is now recovering at the Nueva Ecija Medical Center.

“The Department of Education vehemently condemns the shooting of a public school principal in Sto. Tomas North, Jaen, Nueva Ecija. The Department is coordinating with the concerned field offices and the police to apprehend the perpetrators of this brutal crime,” the DepEd said in a statement.

“We denounce any acts of injustice towards our personnel, learners, and stakeholders. We maintain and advocate that our schools and communities remain as zones of peace for every Filipino, “the department added.

Local police said investigations are still ongoing to determine the motive of the shooting and to identify and arrest the suspects who immediately fled the crime scene.
