A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed and another was captured by government troops in a clash in Las Navas town in Northern Samar on Wednesday morning.
The Army’s 8th Infantry Division named the slain rebel as Adel Cabides alias Hipolito and the captured as Jessie Robinacio alias Tadok, both of the NPA’s Sub-Regional Guerrilla Unit, Sub-Regional Committee Emporium.
Troops from the Army’s 19th Infantry Battalion conducted a combat operation in the hinterlands of Barangay Osmena after civilians reported the presence of armed who were extorting from the residents.
Soldiers clashed with the communist rebels, under one Mario Sevillano, alias Durok, for about 20 minutes. The rebels withdrew, leaving behind Cabides’ body and the wounded Robacio who was later captured. Robacio was given first aid by the troops.
Soldiers found at the encounter site two M16 rifles and personal belongings.
