GOVERNMENT troops captured a female political officer of the New People’s Army in Davao de Oro (formerly Compostela Valley) Friday, the military reported yesterday.
The suspect, Edna Remegio Tan alias Madame, has an arrest warrant for frustrated murder issued by a Davao de Oro court, said 2Lt. Kim Carlos, civil military operations officer of the Army’s 71st Infantry Battalion.
Carlos said troops from the 71st IB encountered a five-man group including Tan during a combat operation in Purok 5, Barangay Anibongan in Maco town at around 9 a.m. on Friday.
The soldiers were responding to reports from residents about the presence of the communist rebels in their area.
“Sensing danger, the rebels fired at the approaching troops, which resulted in an armed engagement,” Carlos said adding Tan was later cornered and captured by the troops.
Tan yielded a cal. 38 handgun and a backpack with an improvised bomb, documents, personal belongings, and shells of cal. 45 pistol.
Carlos said Tan, during a military interview, admitted she has been organizing supporters has been serving as political instructor of the NPA’s Pambansang Demokratikong Paaralan in the province since 2012.
