EMPLOYEES not rendering work today are not entitled to any wage even if December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, is a special non-working day.
The Department of Labor and Employment said the “no work, no pay” principle will apply today “… unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment on a special non-working day.”
For work done during the special non-working day, the worker shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her basic wage on the first eight hours of work, and an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate for overtime work.
As for work done during a special non-working day that also falls on his/her rest day, the worker shall be paid an additional 50 percent of his/her basic wage on the first eight hours of work, and an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate on said day for overtime work.
The Immaculate Conception is the principal patroness of the Philippines.
Proclamation No. 845 issued on Nov. 15, 2019 declared December 8 as a special non-working day.
The group calling itself Pro Life Philippines is set to hold a caravan today, which will pass through five Marian churches in Metro Manila.
“With all the things that are happening now, here and around the world, should you be free on that day, please join us as we pray to Mama Mary to intercede on our behalf so that we, as a nation under God, will survive all our travails,” said Pro Life Philippines.
The five Marian churches are the Manila Cathedral in Manila, Sta Cruz Parish in Manila, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Quezon City, Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Quezon City, and Our Lady of the Abandoned Parish in Marikina City.
“We wanted to have a march just like what we did last year. But there are restrictions now due to COVID,” said Pro Life.
Assembly will be at the Manila Cathedral at 7 a.m., with a mass set to be presided by Manila Apostolic administrator Bishop Broderick Pabillo at 8 a.m.
