NO one has come forward to remove his or her signature from the forms submitted by proponents of the people’s initiative (PI) for Charter change (Cha-Cha) to local offices of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), poll chief George Garcia said yesterday.
In a radio interview, Garcia said they have yet to receive any reports of withdrawal forms being filed in any of their local offices.
“As of now, we have yet to monitor anyone submitting withdrawal forms for this (people’s initiative),” he said.
The Comelec last week announced the availability of the “Withdrawal Form of Signature in Signature Sheets/Petition for People’s Initiative” following its suspension of all PI-related proceedings amid the controversy generated by the PI campaign.
Garcia said those who want to withdraw their names from the PI signature sheets can get the forms from their city/municipal Offices of Election Officers (OEOs) from Mondays to Fridays during office hours.
In the form, the signatory is asked to provide personal details, such as name, address, precinct number, barangay, city/municipality, province, and district. He/she is also asked to state the reason for the withdrawal of his/her signature.
But Garcia said stating the reason for withdrawal is not a mandatory requirement.
“With or without the reason/s, we will accept the withdrawal forms,” he said.
