THE implementation of the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program, commonly known as the number coding scheme, will be suspended today, Monday, as the nation commemorates National Heroes Day, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said.
“The implementation of the UVVRP or number coding scheme from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5p.m. to 8 p.m. on August 29, Monday, National Heroes Day, is suspended,” MMDA acting chairman Carlo Dimayuga III said.
Dimayuga said with the suspension, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 can ply the metropolis’ roadways.
Before the coronavirus pandemic struck, the MMDA had been implementing the UVVRP to lessen the volume of vehicles on major streets in Metro Manila.
With the lockdowns to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus and limited work operations in cities, the MMDA revised its policy by enforcing the UVVRP only during rush hours, which is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
