SEN. Francis Tolentino yesterday said the Department of Tourism must correct the supposed non-inclusion of a number of popular tourist attractions in the country in its latest tourism campaign video.
In an interview with dzBB, Tolentino said he shares the sentiments of Albay 2nd district Rep. Joey Salceda, who earlier expressed disappointment in the DOT’s new tourism campaign since the majestic Mayon volcano was not included in the campaign video in support of the new slogan “Love the Philippines.”
Tolentino said even the famous Taal volcano in Batangas which can be seen from Tagaytay City, Cavite and the Pagsanjan Falls in Laguna, which are popular tourist attractions in the country, were not included in the video.
He said Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco should ask the advertising agency that produced the video to “rectify” the non-inclusion of those tourist attractions and ask it to explain.
“The private agency that erred doing that video should rectify it and explain to clarify things. I have no comment on its accountability. I am just associating myself with Cong. Salceda. Maybe he has included us people from Cavite and Batangas in his disappointment,” said Tolentino, a former mayor of Tagaytay City.
The DOT’s latest campaign slogan has earned various reactions from senators, with Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri saying the new slogan is good but it is better if the government improves its facilities in airports, seaports, and other transport terminals.
The new DOT tourism slogan was launched last week in time for its 50th-year anniversary.
