PRESIDENT Duterte has appointed Davao City councilor Maria Belen Sunga Acosta chairwoman of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) for a term of six years, Cabinet Secretary and acting presidential spokesman Kalro Nograles said yesterday.
Nograles said the appointment papers of Acosta, who replaced Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol who resigned last year to run for the Senate in the May elections, was signed last January 6.
“We wish Chairperson Acosta all the best in her new assignment, and are confident that she will continue the initiatives her predecessors pursued to accelerate the socioeconomic growth of Mindanao,” he said in a statement.
MinDa, in its Facebook page, welcomed the appointment of Acosta who will serve as the eighth MinDa chairperson and the second Mindanaoan female leader to head the agency.
It said Acosta’s job includes coordinating, harmonizing, and integrating socioeconomic development efforts for Mindanao with inter-regional, Mindanao-wide, and sub-regional impacts.
