FOR the second straight day, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases stayed below the 1,000-mark while 34 additional deaths were reported by the Department of Health yesterday.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total cases in the country rose to 3,664,905, counting the 989 new infections, while the death toll climbed to 56,538 for a case fatality rate of 1.54 percent.
The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 4.5 percent among the 27,143 tested samples on March 1.
Active cases dipped slightly to 50,458 from 50,827 last Wednesday, with over 45,000 mild cases and more than 2,700 moderate cases.
The health department also reported 1,349 additional recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,557,909. The DOH said the recovery rate stood at 97.1 percent.
The San Juan government said active cases in the city have dropped considerably since January 12 when it reported 1,947 new infections.
Mayor Francis Zamora said they only had seven active cases as of March 2, the second lowest recorded in the city after five cases last December 12. The city also has 369 deaths and 20,823 recoveries. — With Christian Oineza
