FOR the first time since last January, less than 1,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases were reported by the Department of Health (DOH), while 99 more lost their battle against the deadly virus.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the total number of infections in the country rose to 2,819,341 counting the 849 new cases yesterday while the death toll climbed to 45,808 for a case fatality rate of 1.62.

The last time the country had less than 1,000 new infections was back on January 5 this year, when 937 cases were reported. The latest numbers, however, do not include figures from six laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) last November 14.

The positivity rate in the country stood at 3.2 percent out of the 28,128 tests conducted last November 14.

There were 25,464 active cases, significantly lower than the 27,025 reported last Monday.

The DOH also reported 2,393 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,748,069. This means that 97.5 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.
