A DAY after recalling its bulletin on new cases, the Department of Health reported 13,846 more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections yesterday but attributed this to “lower laboratory output last Sept. 26” while 193 more lost their battle against the deadly virus.

Overall infections in the country rose to 2,522,965 while the toll climbed to 37,686, counting the 91 deaths reported later yesterday and the combined 102 the past days when the COVIDKaya system experienced technical issues, for a case fatality rate of 1.51.

The positivity rate stood at 24.1 percent among the 47,430 tested on September 26 nationwide.

There were 132,139 active cases, with 76.6 percent mild cases, 16.4 percent asymptomatic cases, 3.9 percent moderate cases, 2.1 percent severe cases, and 0.9 percent critical cases.

The DOH also reported 39,980 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,353,140. This means that 93.3 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.

In an online press briefing, DOH-Epidemiology Bureau head Dr. Alethea de Guzman said the COVIDKaya system experienced issues from September 23 to 26 after exceeding its server’s limitations.

COVIDKaya is the DOH database that stores data from all confirmed COVID-19 cases and their close contacts nationwide.

“This was mainly due to the limited server capacity of COVIDKaya to handle, receive, and process bulk data pushed from the system,” said De Guzman.

She added the technical issues experienced by the COVIDKaya System has been resolved by the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

She, however, said they are still coordinating with the DICT for long-term solutions to the technical issues.
