FROM 13,846 last Tuesday, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases further dropped to 12,805 yesterday but the Department of Health reported 478 more deaths, including 292 in previous days when the agency’s monitoring system experienced technical problems.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said “the relatively low cases today is due to lower laboratory output last Monday, September 27.”
The positivity rate stood at 22.9 percent among the 51,327 tested nationwide last September 27.
Total infections in the country rose to 2,535,732 while the toll climbed to 38,164, including 186 new deaths reported yesterday, for a case fatality rate of 1.51.
Active cases rose slightly to 132,339 from 132,139 last Tuesday, with 76.7 percent mild cases, 16.4 percent asymptomatic cases, 3.9 percent moderate cases, 2.1 percent severe cases, and 0.9 percent critical cases.
The DOH also reported 12,236 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,365,229.
Twelve nuns at a monastery in Tanay, Rizal have tested positive for the deadly virus.
Fr. Miguel Condes of the Carmel of Mary Star of the Sea monastery said the infected nuns were either asymptomatic or showing mild symptoms such as colds and coughs.
The monastery is expected to undergo granular lockdown. Overall, Tanay has 332 active COVID cases. — With Christian Oineza
