NEW coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases reported by the Department of Health yesterday stood at 3,050, the lowest number of infections so far this year.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the total number of infections in the country climbed to 3,637,280, counting the 3,792 reported last Saturday and 3,788 last Friday.
For the sixth straight day, new infections stayed below the 5K level.
The DOH said of the new cases, 3,010 or 99 percent occurred within the recent 14 days, or from January 31 to February 13.
“The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR with 556 or 18 percent, Region 6 with 367 or 12 percent, and Region 4-A with 311 or 10 percent,” the DOH said.
There were 81,394 active cases, lower than Saturday’s 84, 229 and Friday’s 91,147, with 71,994 mild cases, 4,546 asymptomatic cases, 3,068 moderate cases, and 1,460 severe cases. The DOH said only 326 are critical cases.
There were 5,811 new recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,500,956.
No new death was reported, which the DOH attributed to technical issues “in extracting data from COVIDKaya, which stores data from all confirmed COVID-19 cases and their close contacts.
The DOH said the Department of Information and Communication Technology is “addressing the issue.”
Last Saturday, the death toll stood at 54,930, counting the 76 latest deaths.
The positivity rate stood at 11.7 percent from the 31,403 tested for the deadly virus.
The DOH said only two laboratories failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
“Based on data in the last 14 days, the two labs contribute, on average 0.2 percent of samples tested and 0.1 percent of positive individuals,” the DOH said.
