NEW coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases dipped further to 15,789 from 17,677 last Tuesday, fueling hopes that infections are indeed now on a downward curve as stressed by the independent OCTA Research.
In its latest bulletin, the Department of Health said the number of cases in the country climbed to 3,475,293 while 66 more succumbed to the deadly virus, raising the death toll to 53,664 for a case fatality rate of 1.54 percent.
The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 35.8 percent among the 48,725 tested samples on January 24.
Active cases also dropped to 230,410 from 247,451 last Tuesday, with over 218,000 mild cases and more than 6,900 asymptomatic cases.
The DOH also reported 32,712 additional recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,191,219.
The Pasig government said active cases in the city have dropped to less than 400 from over 3,000 two days ago.
In its Facebook page, the Pasig Public Information Office said from 3,008 last January 23, they are now dealing with just 395 cases.
The city has reported 74,271 recoveries against 1,489 deaths. — With Christian Oineza
