New cases up to 7,342; deaths now 28,231

FROM 6,879 new cases last Tuesday, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections rose to 7,342 while 90 more patients succumbed to the deadly virus, according to the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the new cases do not include figures from six laboratories that failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) last August 2 while on laboratory was not operational.

Overall, the number of infections in the country rose to 1,619,824 while the toll climbed to 28,231 for a case fatality rate of 1.74.

Active cases rose slightly to 63,171 from 63,137 last Tuesday, with 94.1 percent mild cases, 2 percent severe cases, 1.4 percent moderate cases, 1.3 percent asymptomatic cases, and 1.2 percent critical cases.

The DOH reported 7,285 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,528,422.

This means that 94.4 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
