New cases up to 500; 167 more die

FROM 425 last Tuesday, 500 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases were reported by the Department of Health yesterday, along with 167 additional deaths as the toll surged toward the 49K mark.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country rose to 2,833,038 while the death toll climbed to 48,712 for a case fatality rate of 1.72.

The positivity rate in the country stood at 2.1 percent out of the 30,841 tests conducted last November 29.

Active cases dropped further to 15,327 from 15,800 last Tuesday, with 7,183 mild cases, 3,832 percent moderate cases, 2,489 percent severe cases, 1,067 percent critical cases, and 756 percent asymptomatic cases. Active cases account for 0.5 percent of COVID cases in the country.

The DOH also reported 951 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,768,999.

This means that 97.7 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.
