New cases up to 4,806; 260 more succumb

AFTER dipping to 3,656 last Wednesday, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country rose to 4,806 yesterday while 260 more lost their battle against the deadly virus, according to the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said all labs submitted data, with the latest figures raising the total number of infections to 2,740,111, fast racing to the grim mark of 3 million.

The positivity rate in the country stood at 10.9 percent out of the 52,262 tests conducted last October 19, compared to 11.6 last October 18.

The death toll rose to 41,237 for a case fatality rate of 1.50.

Active cases dipped slight to 65,835 from 67,061 last Wednesday, with 78.7 percent mild cases, 8.5 percent moderate cases, 6.2 percent asymptomatic cases, 4.6 percent severe cases, and 2 percent critical cases. Active cases account for 2.4 percent of COVID cases in the country.

The DOH also reported 5,934 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,633,039. This means that 96.1 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
