New cases still at 200-mark; 47 more succumb to virus

FOR the third straight day, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases stayed at the 200-mark although the number is steadily creeping up while 47 more deaths were reported by the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country rose to 2,837,016 counting the latest figure of 289, from 235 last Tuesday, the lowest in the country in almost 19 months; and 237 last Wednesday.

The death toll climbed to 50,496 for a case fatality rate of 1.78.

The positivity rate in the country stood at 0.9 percent out of the 37,139 tests conducted last December 14.

Active cases dipped further to 10,095 from 10,193 last Wednesday, with 3,870 mild cases, 3,442 moderate cases, 1,845 severe cases, 549 asymptomatic cases, and 389 critical cases. Active cases account for 0.4 percent of COVID cases in the country.

The DOH also reported 380 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,776,425.

This means that 97.9 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.
