FROM 1,223 last Saturday, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases dipped to 1,038 yesterday but 51 more succumbed to the deadly virus, according to the Department of Health.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country rose to 3,661,049, counting the 1,671 new cases last Friday, while the death toll climbed to 56,401 for a case fatality rate of 1.54 percent.
The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 5 percent among the 25,313 tested samples on February 25.
There were 52,961 active cases, with over 47,000 mild cases and 2,700 moderate cases.
The DOH also reported 1,999 additional recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,551,687.
The PNP yesterday reported just one additional COVID-19 case in its ranks, the lowest this year.
Data from the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame also showed six personnel have recovered from the deadly disease.
A total of 48,811 COVID-19 cases have been so far recorded by the PNP since 2020, broken down into 48,655 recoveries, 28 active cases and 128 deaths.
A surge of COVID-19 cases in the country in January due to the Omicron variant did not spare the police force, with the PNP recording a high of 548 new cases on January 14.
The PNP also said 220,173 or 97.93 percent of its policemen have been fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 and 3,894 or 1.73 percent have received the first dose of two-dose vaccines.
This means that only 750 personnel or 0.33 percent of the PNP strength have yet to be vaccinated. Of this number, 339 have “valid reasons” not to be inoculated while 411 have none.
It also said 120,517 or 54.74 percent of fully-vaccinated policemen have received booster shots. — With Victor Reyes
