FROM 4,496 last Tuesday, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country dropped further to 3,656 yesterday and just five deaths were reported by the Department of Health.

The last time less than 4,000 cases were reported was last July 14, when there were 3,806 new infections.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country rose to 2,735,369 while the death toll climbed to 40,977 for a case fatality rate of 1.50.

The positivity rate in the country stood at 11.6 percent out of the 42,296 tests conducted last October 18.

Active cases, however, jumped to 67,061 from 63,637 last Tuesday, with 77.9 percent mild cases, 8.6 percent moderate cases, 6.8 percent asymptomatic cases, 4.6 percent severe cases, and 2 percent critical cases.

The DOH also reported 228 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,627,331.

This means that 96.1 percent of the COVID patients have recovered.

The DOH said the low number of reported recoveries and deaths was due to technical issues with the COVIDKaya system.

“Additional recoveries and deaths shall be reflected in the case bulletin in the following days. Rest assured that the DICT is currently addressing these issues,” the DOH said.
