New cases drop below 2K; 142 more succumb

AFTER rising to 2,646 last Wednesday, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases dipped to 1,974 yesterday while 142 more succumbed to the deadly virus, according to the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country rose to 2,811,248 while the death toll climbed to 44,866 for a case fatality rate of 1.60.

The positivity rate in the country stood at 4.9 percent out of the 43,357 tests conducted last November 9.

Active cases dipped slightly to 28,660 from 29,138 last Wednesday, with 62.1 percent mild cases, 17.1 percent moderate cases, 10.4 percent severe cases, 5.9 percent asymptomatic cases, and 4.4 percent critical cases.

Active cases account for 1 percent of COVID cases in the country.

The DOH also reported 2,388 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,737,722. This means that 97.4 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.
