New cases down to 4,478; 84 deaths

A DAY after new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases breached the 7,000 mark, the Department of Health reported just 4,478 new infections while deaths rose to 84 from 72.

In its latest bulletin yesterday, the DOH said the new cases did not include figures from four laboratories that failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) last July 26.

Last Tuesday, the DOH reported 7,186 new infections, the country’s highest number in six weeks, and this did not include figures from 13 laboratories that failed to submit their data.

While the total number of infections in the country rose to 1,566,667, the toll from the deadly virus climbed to 27,401 for a case fatality rate of 1.75.

Active cases dipped slightly to 54,552 from 56,477 last Tuesday, with 93.4 percent mild cases, 2.3 percent severe cases, 1.6 percent moderate cases, 1.4 percent critical cases, and 1.2 percent asymptomatic cases.

The DOH also reported 6,149 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,484,714. This means that 94.8 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
