A DAY after reporting over 3,000 infections, the Department of Health said the number of new cases dropped to 1,990 yesterday but there were 40 more deaths that raised the number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) fatalities to 6,372.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said 580 of the new cases came from the National Capital Region while Cavite had 114, Rizal 105, Laguna 100, and Misamis Oriental 94.
Overall, the total number of infections in the country rose to 344,713.
Majority of the new deaths were recorded in Western Visayas with 13 while CALABARZON had 10.
There were 327 new recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 293,383.
Globally, as of October 12, there were 37,423,660 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 1,074,817 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
Twenty-six more overseas Filipinos have been infected with the deadly virus, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The 26 new cases brought the number of infected overseas Filipinos to 11,108, with 7,170 recoveries.
The DFA also reported 8 new fatalities, bringing the death toll to 810.
Of the 11,108 COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos, 7,355 were registered in the Middle East and Africa. The two regions have the highest death toll among overseas Filipinos at 528.
The Asia Pacific region reported 1,734 cases and 9 deaths followed by Europe with 1,209 cases and 95 deaths. The Americas reported 810 cases and 178 deaths. — With Ashzel Hachero
