FROM 14,749 cases last Sunday, the second highest in the country since last April, new infections were slightly down to 14,610 yesterday but this figure did not include data from seven laboratories, according to the Department of Health.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the total number of infections in the country now stand at 1,755,846, counting the 14,249 cases reported last Saturday when new cases first breached the 14,000 mark. Last April 2, there were 15,310 cases reported, the highest in the country since last year.
The DOH also said that 27 more patients succumbed to the deadly virus, raising the number of fatalities to 30,366 for a case fatality rate of 1.73.
As the number of new cases showed no signs of slowing down, active cases also rose to 106,672 from 102,748 last Sunday, with 96.1 percent mild cases, 1.3 percent severe cases, 0.9 percent asymptomatic cases, 0.8 percent moderate cases, and 0.7 percent critical cases.
The DOH also reported 10,674 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,618,808. This means that 92.2 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has a mild case of COVID-19 and is in stable condition at the Sta. Ana Hospital.
“Our Honorable Mayor Francisco Domagoso was admitted last night, August 15, 2021, here at Sta. Ana Hospital. He has mild colds, coughs and body malaise as presenting symptoms.
He has no fever,” a medical bulletin issued by Dr. Grace Padilla, director of Sta. Ana Hospital said.
“His RTPCR test result turned out positive. Lab tests were taken, and the initial findings of his chest CT Scan result is normal. Our clinical impression: He has a mild COVID disease,” she added.
Padilla said Moreno is being given oral anti-biotics and vitamins.
“He is stable, comfortable and sleeping well,” she said, adding “medical specialists and (a) nursing team will be in close supervision.”
Moreno announced on Sunday that he has tested positive for the virus, a week after Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna got infected.
Padilla said Lacuna is on her way to recovery. “Likewise, our honorable Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna is on her way to recovery as she was admitted last week,’ she said.
Another policeman succumbed to COVID-19, bringing to 92 the PNP death toll from the disease, PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar said.
