NEW coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases climbed back up to 1,534 yesterday from a low of 1,019 last Tuesday while 201 more lost their battle against the deadly virus, according to the Department of Health.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the total number of infections in the country rose to 3,655,709 while the death toll climbed to 55,977 for a case fatality rate of 1.53 percent.
The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 6.1 percent among the 24,527 tested samples on February 21.
Active cases, however, continued to go south with 55,449 yesterday, from 56,668 last Tuesday, with over 50,000 mild cases and more than 2,800 moderate cases.
The DOH also reported 2,729 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,544,283 for a recovery rate of 97 percent.
The DOH has renewed its call for local government units to report results of the antigen tests they have conducted.
“While antigen test results are not yet included in our topline numbers, LGUs are required to submit their line list, which is then cleared and analyzed along with RT-PCR results received from labs,” the health agency said.
The DOH also encouraged the public to honestly report their test results to authorities.
“This is to prevent virus transmission within the community. This will allow our local officials to take proper action as well,” the DOH said.
Under the DOH Department Memorandum No. 2022-0033, reporting of results of self-administered antigen tests is mandatory.
