FROM 15,789 last Wednesday, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases jumped to 18,191 yesterday while 74 more lost their battle against the deadly virus, according to the Department of Health.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total cases in the country climbed to 3,493,447 while the death toll rose to 53,736 for a case fatality rate of 1.54 percent.
The current positivity rate in the country stood at 35.2 percent among the 61,013 tested samples on January 25.
Active cases, however, dipped to 226,521 from 230,410 last Wednesday, with over 214,000 mild cases and more than 6,800 asymptomatic cases.
The health department also reported 22,014 additional recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,213,190.
The Department of Justice said there are now only 14 active COVID-19 cases among its employees in Manila, down from 59 two weeks ago.
Data provided by the DOJ showed that of the 80 employees infected with the virus since the start of the year, 66 have recovered.
In all, 192 DOJ employees have tested positive for the virus, including 18 in 2020 and 94 in 2021.
Justice Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay Villar said of the 804 officials and employees in their main office, 769 have been fully vaccinated. — With Ashzel Hachero
